| Using my movies boardgame. I completed 6/6 movies from my last challenge, it went just okay - I rated one 4.5 and a couple in the 3-star range. I think I'm starting to feel 'meh' about movies, maybe burnt-out or just too tired, but I'll keep on and see how it goes. Avatar: Supernatural Skill: Re-draw a prompt once
Roll #1
A 12!! Prompt: LGBTQ+. booksmart. I already had it on my TBR but I found it on an LGBT movie list.
Roll #2
An 8, prompt (un)natural disaster. Would Thirteen Lives be considered a natural disaster? I think so? I'm taking it. I don't think I'll like it as much as the Thai mini-series but my mom said to watch it so (she just likes Viggo Mortensen).
Roll #3
A 10, prompt: adapted from a book. This prompt is a pain in the butt, I'm using my skill. New prompt: thriller. A Perfect Getaway.
Roll #4
A 4, prompt: family. Another off PTW that was on a 'family' list - Lady Bird.
Roll #5
An 11 and the end. Short and fast! Reward, reward, uh. Dangerous Animals.

| With GYWO 2026 Pledges opening next week, which pledge to choose is hopefully on your mind. Instead of letting everyone stew in their personal hells, we’re running down a few of the common things the mods tell panicked participants, and then offering up a pledge calculator to help you make this somewhat difficult decision. If you have any questions about GYWO or what it's like to aim for a specific pledge, the comments are open for all your concerns. Sometimes talking to a writer currently working on a pledge can help you come to a pledging decision! If you're new to GYWO and have a question related to our membership requirements, general guidelines, monthly check-ins, or what words or activities count, please visit our website. More information about pledging for 2026 will be released around Dec 12. Word Count Pledge Vs Habit PledgeDeciding between a Word Count Pledge or Habit Pledge can be a difficult decision. Here are some things to consider as you make your choice: ( Choosing Between Word Count and Habit )Habit PledgesChoosing between Habit Pledges comes down to deciding how much you plan to write each month: - If you plan to write mostly on weekends, choose the 120 Day Pledge. That’s weekends + 16 days.
- If you plan to write mostly on weekdays, choose the 240 Day Pledge. That’s weekdays – 20 days, giving you a few days off.
- If you want to write every day, choose the 350 Day Pledge!
- If you've participated previously and 120 Days was too easy, but 240 Days was too hard, try the 180 Day Pledge to land right in between!
- If you've participated previously and 240 Days was too easy, but 350 Days was too hard, try the 300 Day Pledge to land in between!
- If you haven’t tried writing daily before but want to, we recommend the 180 Day Pledge as a way to ease into a semi-daily writing habit before tackling a more challenging pledge.
Word Count PledgesFirst Time with a Word Count Pledge? If you’ve never tracked your word count for the year, take a moment to assess how many words you think you’ve written in the past year. Consider things like whether or not you participate in word-count based writing challenges, how much you’ve published in the last year (self or traditionally published, fanfic, blog, etc), and how much you tend to revise your work (writing it entirely over or just editing lines). - If meeting your goal is more motivating, choose a goal that matches a conservative estimate of how much you wrote in 2025.
- If you think you’ll lose interest if you meet your goal early, choose a goal that matches a liberal estimate of how much you wrote in 2025.
- There are no penalties for not meeting your pledge, so don’t be afraid to choose a pledge you may not be able to meet!
Pledge CalculatorThinking about what projects you'll work on next year is another common way writers make decisions about their GYWO pledge. To aid that, we've created the Pledge Calculator. Click the link and download or make a copy to use the spreadsheet. To save it to your Google Drive, you can go to File > Make a Copy from the web. If you are on mobile from a phone or tablet, tap the 3 dots at the top right, and go to Share & export > Make a Copy
To download in another format, go to File > Download from the web. On mobile, tap the 3 dots at the top right, and go to Share & export > Save as…. Fill in the title of your projects, estimated word counts, or estimated number of days you'll work on the project. The calculator will recommend a Word Count Pledge and a Habit Pledge based on the information you provide. download or save the Pledge CalculatorWhether you've done GYWO before or used the calculator, you might have narrowed your choice to two goals. Here’s our advice for choosing between two word count goals…( Go Big on Word Counts )( Step Back on Word Counts )( Keep Your Word Count Consistent )The best advice we have is to look at your schedule and figure out where writing fits into it. Use the pledge calculator (or pen and paper) to list the projects, ficathons, and stories you might write next year and consider the word tallies or time involved. Really think about what's motivating for you—knowing you'll hit a goal or chasing down the finish line. And if all else fails, you can do what some of our current GYWO members have suggested and pick your pledge based on the associated pledge color. 😉 Habit Pledges—120 Days (Backpacker), 180 Days (Excursionist), 240 Days (Explorer), 300 Days (Adventurer), and 350 Days (Globetrotter) Word Count Pledges—75K (Light), 150K (Modest), 200K (Basic), 250K (Moderate), 300K (Difficult), 350K (Herculean), 500K (Outrageous), and 1M (Ludicrous) As a reminder, your GYWO pledge is locked in for the full year. You cannot change pledges mid-year. If you hit your goal early, you're still part of the same pledge group. So choose a goal to sustain you ALL year.In the comments, let us know your pledging woes! Wonder how difficult another pledge is? Still need clarity on the pledge types? This is your opportunity to ask. After some discussion, hopefully you'll come away with a confident decision. Note: Commenting to this post does not constitute pledging for 2026. Come back next week and follow the instructions in the Pledges & Requirements post to make a pledge for 2026.

Challenge 282: CATHARSIS | n. purification or purgation of the emotions (such as pity and fear) primarily through art; a purification or purgation that brings about spiritual renewal or release from tension
Sometimes, you just need to feel things. A really good cry, a really good laugh, or a really good scream – whichever it is, it’s good for the soul. Sometimes you can get it through art, maybe a tragic play, or a comedy movie, or a romance novel; other times, you just need to confront your nemesis, or stand in the woods and scream, or laugh until you cry at something that isn’t actually funny.
How do your characters find catharsis? Do art or music work for them, or do they need something a little more concrete?
Write a story about catharsis.
BONUS GOAL: “Are you okay?”
If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

| One of the only disappointing things about creating a custom mood theme is that you need to have a paid account to use it. This has probably left more than a few people looking wistfully at this community only to decide, maybe later. And to be honest, for a long time now, I've been daydreaming about the ability to gift paid time to any community members who complete part or all of a custom mood theme.
Well, I'm both gobsmacked and delighted to announced that my daydream has come true.
From this date forward, any member of this community who completes a set of 18 images for a custom mood theme will get one month's worth of paid time or equivalent in Dreamwidth points.
Wait, really? Yes, really! I've been given a bunch of points to use for members of this community as I see fit, and instructions to ask for more after those points run out.
So... What are the requirements?
For every 18 images/animations of a custom mood theme you've made or significantly edited in the past year, find a way to show them to me, and I'll award your account with the paid time/points. For every 36 images you make for a single mood theme, I'll throw in an extra month, for a total of three months worth of paid time/points. If you complete 132 moods, you'll get a whole year's worth of paid time/points! The first two options there line up pretty closely with the Minimum and Medium Tracks on the schedule; that said, the posted schedule is still just a suggestion! If you've got a mood theme you've been perfecting on and off for years and you only have twenty images to go, I'm not going to say that they have to include the eighteen moods from the Minimum Track. You still only get one month of paid time/points, since all of the other images were made at a previous time, but you've got the freedom to make whatever images you'd like.
Not all of the moods you make have to be for the same mood theme for you to get all of the paid time/points, either! As long as you make the right number of images, you can get up to one year's worth of paid time/points per calendar year. So you can make seven Minimum mood themes (with five extra moods sprinkled in there), or three Medium mood themes and one Minimum mood theme (again, need an extra five), or any combination, as long as it all adds up to 132.
Is there any way to earn more than a year's worth of paid time or points in a single year? This is something I'm working on, and it's not ready yet! But, in the future, the current plan is maybe an extra three months a year or so? We'll see how the current arrangement works out first.
Okay, how do I show the completed moods to you? That's up to you! Here's several options, though: You can post them here to this community (and show of your work to everyone!) You can post them to your own account and send me a link to that post You can share them in the comments of one of this community's official posts; I feel like the Break posts are good for this, organizationally, but any post with the tag "Mod Post" is fine—including this one! You can take a screencap of the images on your computer, upload that image somewhere, and DM me a link I'm all set for paid time, can I give my points to someone else? Absolutely! You can also ask me to send them to another person instead of you. If you happen to think that a custom mood theme and a month's paid time or more would be the perfect gift for someone in your circle, I'm here to help you make that happen! All you have to do is to organize the mood images.
I love this idea, but I have no idea how to set up a custom mood theme! I promise you, writing a tutorial on that is almost at the very top of my Dreamwidth Task to-do list. The only thing with higher priority is a tutorial in uploading images, because one of the things you need for a custom mood theme is a place to host the images. Luckily, you can do that on Dreamwidth! But the interface isn't the most intuitive, especially if you're more used to sites where you can just drag-and-drop an image into a post. So I'm getting to that first, and then I'll write up that custom mood theme making tutorial.
Unfortunately, that'll probably be another few weeks out, because I decided to go back to school and am currently in Final Projects Hell. And then after that, it's cookie season for professional bakers like me. But once that's done, I should have free time to get those tutorials written up, and then hopefully get that "What about more paid time?" thing sorted out.
I have a question you haven't answered here. If you leave it in a reply to this post, I'll do my best to answer it ASAP!
Is that everything? I think that's everything. It's everything I can think of at the moment, at any rate. Well, except making edits to the community profile and sticky posts, but I'm flirting with bed time as it is. So I'll get to those tomorrow, hopefully. But other than that, it's everything I can think of.
(I'm so excited about this OMG 🤩)

| Episode 6: Taiju diving into the pile of Medusas. 🤣
I love when Gen gets that sneaky expression on his face.
I also love when Chrome comes out with something that solves a problem, makes me proud. :') Because of Senkuu, Chrome gets to learn more of what he loves.
The non-science users have created diamonds! <3 Episode 7: Kohaku got another badass speech! It's down to the wire and they're still trying to figure out how to make the diamonds work with the Medusa, but they got a new lead. Episode 8: It just hit me that Charlotte looked exactly like a sex doll or cartoon balloon when she was poisoned by the spider...she was all butt and boobs. 🙄 Xeno, even if Stanley wasn't a military man he would rescue you even if it wasn't by murdering teenagers... Usui getting excited is so cute. Even knowing Tsukasa and Hyouga will be okay it's hard to see them gunned down like that. 😭 And Tsukasa's last thoughts being proud of them and of Senkuu. "What I once sought to destroy has become a glimmer of hope." Episode 9: Chelsea crying, Gen losing it at Taiju dying, then Ryuusui, daamn. I can't remember if we get to see Joel and Kaseki meet but I need to see it! Joel climbing out from under the corpses, hand getting shut in the vault but pressing the watch on time...the tension!! I'm glad I get to experience it twice through the manga and now the anime, because I definitely forgot some things.

| Last break! Or, well, last mid-mood-theme break; there's technically a break between the actual final moods of the year and when next year starts, but hey! That's pretty close, right?
Now's a great time to sit back and take stock of everything you've accomplished with your mood theme(s). Whether you've been following the Maximum track from January 1st, jumping in and out on the Minimum track, landing a solid Medium track or two, or somewhere in between, you've done a lot, and I'm proud of you!
Now, if you are going for the Maximum track but haven't been opting in on the Bonus moods, feel free to use this week to jump ahead and finish up those last five moods from Part 8; I know December can be really busy for a lot of us, and having that out of the way can be a big relief! That said, if you want to stick around and make your last five moods with the community, you'll certainly be welcome to do so! Or even if you just want to skip the last few moods; 127 is still a heck of a lot of moods to have made!
Whatever you decide, and however you expect to spend the rest of the year, I hope it's good for you!
