I've been in the ~zone~ with grinding because I wanted to get Tsukasa in time for his birthday in JP, and I did. I actually got him last night, so I had to wait until this morning to unlock him :T BUT!!!! I did!!! So now I get to coast through the last few days of the event and hopefully pick up a few MV crystals along the way.

ta-da!!!! second Tsukasa center event I've played on JP now~!

aaaaaaand I got Leo up to rank B during it!!! I took full advantage of double fans for Knights to work on some of his cards ♥

I solo'd Nozomi from the MELLOW DEAR US CD art banner, which was well timed...since I was running out of room for fans on cards of his already..........

so with that, I was able to finish up him and Mashu for the 10k fans campaign!!!! 100 plays for each of them......I've played a lot of enstars in the past month I guess XD I'm almost done with Juis and Chitose, too!
As a sidebar to accomplishments, can I just say how surprised I am that MATRIX is so popular on the ENG server???? The reaction online when it ran in JP was just so incredibly negative that I expected it to be less so. Like, I have over 8 mil points and I’m not even close to the top 200, which is much closer to...idk, how Altered was last year? I’m not upset - I actually liked MATRIX, lmao - I’m just pleasantly surprised, I guess.

So maybe now I can finally say that I enjoyed it without be crucified XD I guess, as always, internet culture is fickle and the few loudest people are assumed to be the majority.

ANYWAY. On that note, onto ENG server wins!!!

hi Hiiro #2 that I still haven't worked on because I'm out of large blue pieces...I did work on Rinne #2 cuz he still gets pulled for some of my JP lineups. so I'm honestly quite excited to have him in ENG~

idk why this specific song is so hard, but Love's Primavera was the society song last night and I finally got a full combo on Expert :T

FINALLY, APRIL FOOLS RETURNS TO ENSTARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT LOOKS FUCKING INCREDIBLE FROM JUST THE TEASER!!!!

Nozomi, Mayoi, and Kanata??? HELLO!!!!!!
So, I'm fucking pumped. I was so caught up in the joy on April Fools returning this year, I forgot to think about who could potentially be in it. But holy shit I wouldn't have guessed this lineup!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Even just the teaser looks so good; I can't wait!!! Thankfully, it's in JP, so I'll only be waiting about 9.5 hours at this point....just enough time to play the Knights event and get some sleep~

.....also I originally said I was only gonna get one copy each of Hiiro and Rinne from Matrix in ENG, but I wanted to max Mayoi's 4*, sooooo...two copies......just like in JP...........oops?

OH ALSO!!!! I got the last memorial coins I needed to get two more copies of Madara's initial Double Face card, netting me the SCR room outfit ♥

Uhhhhhhh in other news I got both 5* rate up cards for the Knights fanthanx, so shout out Niki and Tori for your support???? They're also both super cute cards, so I'm not complaining :D Niki usually hates me in the gacha, ngl, so I was extra surprised to see him.

.....I wish I had more money this week; the silhouettes alone are making me and Liz wanna cosplay Mayoi and Kanata :T WHY MUST EVERYTHING COST SO MUCH!!!!!!

Hi, sorry, I've been lost to the Pokopia dimension XD Real talk, I've been unable to put it down, and I only managed to get through the JP enstars event through sheer force of desire to have New Characters.

so yeah that was cool but pokemon is my life now XD

ALSO OH MY GODDDDDDDDDD I can't get too into it because I'm already zested, but the end of Trigun Stargaze? Way to shit on everything Stampede built up...and like, I didn't even like Stampede that much compared to 98 and the manga. And yet this was worse! It was so much worse that I it's been hours and I'm still enraged + baffled at the choices.

I'm gonna paraphrase some of Liz's thoughts because they made really good ones and my brain is mush from frustration. But like. Stargaze has a lot of the same problems Stampede had with pacing and tone, but magnified to such an extreme that I can't take it seriously. I was honestly trying to give it a chance because so many people were hating on it + it took me awhile to get on board with Stampede, but yikes. This is...not a good anime. So much of it felt like "hey you know that scene from trimax that you loved? we recreated it without any understanding of what made it good or impactful!!! that's what you wanted, right?????"

And so then the final episode was all of that and more. There was a mostly mediocre, uninspired space battle + Vash and Knives fighting, and like okay. I know Trigun is DEEP SPACE PLANET FUTURE GUN ACTION but it's not all just......firing lasers in space, you know? I hate space lasers but Trigun made me love the setting, and Stargaze absolutely didn't. There was no Chronica and Domina - which I predicted, but I'm still disappointed - and we did the stupid fucking "pan over every named character to see what they're doing during the Big Fight™ as a way to pretend they're still important to the action" that I haaaaaaaaate.

ALSO. I'M SORRY. Vash would not try to coerce Knives into dying with him/committing suicide together. Like??????????? THAT'S NOT VASH THE STAMPEDE!!!! That's something Knives would pull, yeah, but it just felt sooooooo OOC in a way to seem ~edgy~ or something, idk. But I guess since Knives died to save Vash, it's "fine" and he's "redeemed" or whatever because he was sad about it, weh weh. GIMME A BREAK.

Don't even get me started on how they did Legato dirty. His death was had no fucking weight because they never did anything to build him up into a threat!!!!! He basically never became more than Knives's thirstiest follower, and that's an insult to his character. He's got more depth and yeah, he's a terrible person, but Stargaze pretty much made him into a generic anime villain who's just evil and gay coded. Thanks. That's totally all there is to Legato.

So, yeah, Knives's death was just. Shrugs. It didn't feel like anything. And that's kinda how most of Stargaze felt!!! And like they just couldn't properly decide what they were doing, so it just.....didn't matter? Are doing an everyone lives AU? Not for long! We can't actually save everyone, we better kill off the """irredeemable""" ones!! And we can't do anything with the ones we let live, especially Wolfwood, so they can just....stand around, I guess? You like that, right?

NO. I DON'T LIKE THAT AT ALL, STUDIO ORANGE. How could you do this to me ;w;

Oh but of course we have to find a way to shoehorn in the ending of Trimax, even though we'd been in the middle of a tonally different conversation. Tonal whiplash is the best way to tell a story, you know! And then we've got the final shot of Vash doing his signature ✌🏻 with the crossed fingers cuz we gotta check all the boxes!!! This is how you make Trigun Good, right?

I also hate that basically everyone but a select few scientists are leaving Nomans Land??? Like....okay yeah it wasn't great there, but it feels like it's missing the theme of human determination and making something beautiful out of a less than ideal situation. Just another example of Stargaze missing the mark!!!!!!!

okay. okay. I gotta stop because I have to eat lunch and get some writing done I was just so upset I had to write it out.

ON A FINAL, GOOD NOTE, TODAY MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF MATRIX IN ENGSTARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was one of the few people who really liked it and I remember posting about it as it was coming out...an early liveblog of enstars ;w; Very nostalgic, very good. I'm looking forward to reading it properly now that it's out on the ENG server~

And I'm finally gonna try to type of the popstar Knives AU I wrote in.....2023.......................

Um, I don't have a lot else to talk about because I've just been in 24/7 Pokopia cycle...I definitely feel like it was worth buying a Switch 2 for and, as much as I hate to suggest dropping that much money on something, I highly recommend it. I finished that "story" of it and cried at the end, so like. idk. I don't have smart words right now because I'm hungry ;w;

I also took a bunch of screenshots while playing, because it's soooooooo fuckin cute and I wanna make icons of everything *w* But there's also sooooo much to do that I get overwhelmed, so I'm thinking of sitting down and making a Plan for each area instead of just running wild. I wanna make some nice towns!!!

But like for real I'm gonna lose my mind waiting to see how this pays off. I can't even put it into words because I'm sooooooooo just *clenches fist* insane about these two. Clearly they don't have to be in a unit to spend time together (we now have two canonical trips they've taken together post-disbandment), but I really like Double Face's music. So I want more ;w;

Maybe we didn't get Sleeper Mystery Train or Secret of Metropolis added in the 2024-2025 cycle because they're saving them for when DF gets back together...that's the lie I'm telling myself, okay.

Also the quote retweets on that are just like.......soooooooo many Double FacePs crashing out and crying about it. Like. This isn't just me making shit up; we're all making shit up together.

Anyway I found out about this because Liz called me from work to wake me up so I could be insane with them XD Which is so real ngl- sometimes you just gotta scream together. But this also means I've been going nuts since I woke up, and playing a bunch of Pokopia did not temper it. Instead, I've just been vibrating at a frequency that can shatter glass while trying to be chill.

......so Liz and I are gonna work on cosplay when they get home from work as a way to direct this madness XD If we really go hard, we could finish their first feature scouts in time for peak cherry blossom blooms in DC, and wouldn't that make for a nice photoshoot?? Or if nothing else we could take them to Sakura Matsuri :T Either way, I'd like to get them done, since we bought the fabric before Joanns went out of business (RIP).

OKAY OKAY OKAY I need to actually eat something today because I've just been going nuts about fictional anime boys all day XD Oops!

MaM Event: Done!!!!

The final rankings are in, and here's how it shook out for me:

Seriously, nearly being in the top 100 in a JP event is insane. Like. Yeah, MaM isn't the most popular unit by any means, but still. I'm not gonna top this for awhile (largely because I cannot be spending this much money on enstars regularly lmao). Also Kohaku is much more popular, so even if I get as many points in whatever his next center is, I probably won't be as high ranked. So I will hold onto this proudly!!!!

Also, I'm up early because 1) I didn't sleep Sunday night so I made myself stay awake all of Monday so I could actually sleep at regular hour for once, and 2) big enstars announcement stream at 8 am. MELLOW DEAR US is finally being added in game as playable characters, after months of edging us~ I'm so pumped!!!!! I've been intrigued by them ever since they were teased in name only during VS★AUDIENCE nearly two years ago now, so it's exciting that it's all coming together~ Nice Arneb Thunder abandoned them to ES - which seems to be a pattern with him, sorry esupuri - and now they're gonna be part of RhythLin.

~~hopefully that goes better for them than all the other RhythLin units lmao~~

ANYWAY. The stream was very good, the new VAs seem to slot right in with enstars vibes already ngl, so it's probs gonna be good things moving forward. They're also the next JP event, which looks sick as hell aesthetically but why is Juis the center for it? He's the leader, so he's managing to debut with three 5 stars while everyone else gets one. Greedy XD I like him and his stupid green hair tho, so I'm not complaining....it's just funny. tbh from the vibes of the MV, Nozomi looks more central, but what do I know?

The other thing occupying my time and attention is the new Pokemon game.........I can't fucking put it down. Pokopia is so good; I just think it's unfair that it's Switch 2 exclusive. I wish Liz and Pat could play with me ;w; Everyone's been enjoying watching me play, but it's definitely the kind of game that's most fun when you can play it yourself. It's like if Animal Crossing and Minecraft had a baby, and the baby was full of Pokemon. Which is to say, addictive as hell.

.....after I finish this entry I'm gonna go play it some more XD My house in the beach area should be done being built!!! It's just really good, okay. It was absolutely worth spending a chunk of my severance pay on a Switch 2 as my birthday present to myself. It's a legitimately good system (better than I expected, ngl), and I just. Look. Pokemon is so good ;w;

OH AND I DID GET KOHAKU'S SECOND FEATURE SCOUT IN ENG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He came home on the first 10 scout ;w; I was so worried that I wouldn't get him, cuz like....his and Madara's FS2s run the same week and I've had two years to save for it and then I blew all my savings on Madara's stupid global exclusive because I hate him. And then I spent $$$ on the JP event, also for Madara, also so he could ruin my life, which means I don't have a lot to spend on scouting right now. BUT KOHAKU LOVES ME. HE'S A GOOD BOY. I can only hope it goes as well when Madara's scout starts on Friday D: Fingers crossed!!!!!

MaM event accomplishment the second: I got Madara and Kohaku to Rank A+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not trying to sound ~elitest~ or anything, but I do feel somewhat more accomplished when I rank idols up in JP, probably because of the lack of autoplay. All of that was manual, babeeeyyyyy!!!! And so I even though I have more fans for my faves in ENG & CN, it feels more ""real"" in JP in a sense.

~~or maybe that's just my wrists crying in pain lmao~~

OH AND ANOTHER THING!!!! Because I got them both to rank A+, I got a new title to use in my profile~ Since I wasn't playing in JP when the Double Face climax or TRIP album ran, I don't have any other DF titles ;w; but!!!! I'm excited to have the gold one now ♥

And in another year, I'll have gotten them to rank S, trust!!! Just.....55k more fans to go...............but I want the outfits + the rainbow title, so I must push onwards.

uhhhhhh what else? Alex is coming this weekend to play some more P5R, since she's only played vanilla. We're on the 3rd semester and it's just delicious, since she's somehow stayed spoiler-free??? Wild. And since I finished the MaM event so early, I can actually have a social life, lmao.

I think I'm still too incoherently excited to post about the end of the MaM fanthanx event story but just know that it redeemed everything about this event like. just. I didn't think that was possible but I was WRONG and I'm so glad for it ;w;

Really I just wanted to post about potentially designing a new layout......I do love my current one and it was a lot of work to get it to play right with dreamwidth, but like...it's been over a year, I need change XD I wish Component wasn't a livejournal only experience, cuz some of my ideas may or may not be feasible with other layouts...or my skill level :T Either way, I don't even know who I'm gonna feature in it ~~probably double face who am I kidding~~ it's just been like...vague coding ideas........

ngl I wish LJ hadn't shit the bed entirely because I managed to score free paid time there and I would absolutely overhaul my layout there if I could actually, you know, crosspost my entries conveniently. I just don't think I have the dedication to post them all manually :T

120k fans, here I come!!!! tbh I got them to rank A+ in CN a bit ago and they have more than enough fans in ENG for once it comes to that server, but it feels a lot more earning in JP, you know? I had to manually grind for every single on of those fans, and it's only taken me 2 years. Which like, okay, I guess that's a lot of time, but it's also a sign of my dedication ♥

I'm trying not to dread the climb to rank S....175k fans seems insurmountable, but so did 120k!!!!! I can do it!!!!!!! It's going faster now because 2x/3x fans for White Day, but like...it's not impossible. If I want something, I can make it happen~

edit: forgot to include that I actually got a 5* from my MaM 10 scout ;w; Like of course it's yet another green one, as if I didn't just max the green event one, but I'm not complaining!! I was so excited ;w;

wish we could have unit/idol specific scouts more often...this is great XD

EVENT: DONE

I got the final copy of Madara already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
idk what to say; I was possessed by a level of focus and determination hitherto unknown I guess???? I just locked in and played enstars for two days straight XD Seriously, I got the last copy at around 5 am, which was 52 hours after the event started. I did sleep some on Saturday night, but yeah, I was just on the nonstop grind.

Also, while I still don't love the event song (or outfit), the song started to grow on me after I'd played it nearly 50 times XD Which is good, since, you know, I had to play it so many times. Overall, I think I wouldn't have minded as much if this was a """regular""" event, but since the Fan ThanX events are meant to be more important, it was a bigger letdown. Like. It's a phone game, I'll live, but I'm still somewhat bummed.

KOHAKU REFERENCED IN ONE OF THE MINI TALKS THO SO LIKE. I'LL TAKE MY CRUMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the office item also included Double Face decorations, not just MaM ;w; I was soooo afraid the event was gonna pretend like DF had never existed or some shit, so like....I was slightly healed by all that.

So, there's a Pop'n Music collab going on in enstars right now, which means that I played....a lot of the temporary collab songs during this event XD Sayonara Heaven, you are so important to me.

uhhhhhhhh my brain is still a little fried from how much enstars I played in such a short time....

OH, RIGHT. Since it's 2x fans for White Day (3x for Madara), I'm gonna spend the rest of the event fan grinding. Like...I have the card maxed already, I'm pretty much set on event points, you know? So I'm hoping I can make a big push towards Rank A+/120k fans for Madara and Kohaku~ I did the push for Rank A during the Bridal Campaign last summer, so now seems like a good time for it :D

Liz and I ran to the grocery store this evening because I was d y i n g for a vegetable. Like, yes, I was technically only grinding for two days, but it felt waaaaay longer, since I basically shoved the whole week of playing into that time, while subsisting mostly on instant food. Though on Saturday morning, Liz did make me eggs, bacon, and corn muffins from scratch for breakfast, which was very sweet ;w; They've been super supportive of my enstars-based insanity for the event, and I really appreciate it.

Spouses who game together stay together, you know? ♥

I do have to play a little bit more today, since it's Arashi's birthday, but like. It's sooooo much more manageable now XD

Mika Loves Me, At Least

IN A WONDERFUL BIT OF GOOD LUCK, MIKA ALSO CAME HOME FROM THE GACHA AND I AM FEELING BELOVED BY THE GOD OF LUCK!!!!! I'm going into this event with 150% rate up, so I'm gonna call that a win~

The only downside is that now I have 3 different blue Mika 5 stars and zero green ones......maybe someday his first feature scout will come home....

Anyway, I did not end up liking the full MV for the MaM event and ended up so upset I slept most of yesterday D: Like I also hadn't slept much the night before, but like......I had a huge crash out and couldn't stay awake any longer. I don't wanna rehash everything I don't like again, because I'm trying to be more positive ;w; I just. Bluh. I'd been trying not to build it up in my mind and I know I still did, but it's not even like sorta not what I like, it's just.......boring.

The song is sooooooooooo boring. Maybe I'll like it more once I play it, but that's hit or miss. Good beatmaps can save things, I guess. But I'm not trying not to get my hopes up, since every part of this event has disappointed me.

But honestly getting the beautiful Mika improved my mood XD I also bought enough dia to carry me through the event, so like...I'm ready!!! I just have to lock the fuck in and grind for 8 days straight~

When Pat and Liz get home from work, Liz is gonna take a nap so they can stay up all night with me and Pat is gonna go to Micro Center with me. We're 3D printing some of the stars that are in Madara's card because I'm making some decorations for the event and I need to get some yellow filament. Right now we're printing a glow-in-the-dark one because that's what Pat had on hand, but I also want some in the yellow like the card. Also, I need to swing by Michael's to get more ribbon so I can make my Madara nui a bow inspired by his terrible pastel outfit.

ALSO I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE PASTEL PRINCE BULLSHIT since this week's megaphoto battle theme is "Fairytale Prince" and like. They're usually tied into the current event. But he barely looks like one; he looks more like an easter egg merged with a children's theater performer. And not a good one. Like, an annoying one XD And I'm married to a former children's theater performer, so I would know.

I'm trying to listen to the new song a few more times...maybe if I hear it enough I can trick myself into liking it....................

I don't wanna talk about the MaM event so I'm gonna be positive and share what I made before the event announcement last night. I got a bunch of stickers to decorate toploaders with a bit ago and finally picked up a pack of toploaders last night~ I've never made any before, though, so I decided to start with this Tsumugi pasha I got awhile back:

Overall, a lot of fun to make, but I do feel like I need to buy even more stickers XD As if I don't have enough already ;D

More than anything, I think I need more cards of characters I love....I have so few ;w;

I'm gonna try very hard to fight the "haha anxious fears were right" thoughts and also wait until the full MV release, but.......my fears were kinda right and I'm so far just very "meh" about the MaM fanthanx preview :T

The bit of song preview we got is slow and just...not the sort of song I'm into. I know that Halloween Rendezvous is soooooooo good so it's hard to follow up something like that, but most MaM songs have more energy??? I'm really holding out hope that the full version is better ;w;

And then I'm also not a huge fan of the outfit D: The card itself is really pretty, but there's sooooo much going on with the outfit...

I love the stars and sparkles of the bg and his face is so pretty but there's too much going on in the outfit and not enough tying it together
One of the problems is that while the default MaM outfit is cowboy themed, none of his event outfits ever are, so it's hard to design something that captures the essence of MaM when every time he wears something completely different. It does look a bit better in the one screencap of the MV that's been revealed, but like. bluh.

Also, my least favorite character in all of enstars is the 4* in the event 🙃 I'm being so strong and brave about it, but like. sobs. why. I know Madara has like 2.5 friends and that it's too much to hope for Kohaku to show up, but like....Leo????? Can him and Leo hang out ever again, or is that forbidden now??? They've barely done anything in !!-era stuff, like?????????????? plz let them hang again ;w;

At least the other scout box 5* is fucking incredible. It's a very beautiful Mika card and I'm holding out hope I'll get him ;w; My mental health hinging on a single gacha card......

Yume Has Blessed Me

The first rate up box for the MaM event started last night and 1) I really like the card and 2) he came home!!!!

Yume is suuuuuch a cute brat and I'm glad here's gonna support me in my quest for Madara~
Also, he crashed my phone XD like literally in the middle of the scout my phone completely froze up but wouldn't shut off, so the scout music was just playing while I was desperately trying to get my phone to turn off. Thanks, Yume.

I ended up really liking the most recent JP event, tour aspect and all, though I do need to sit down and read the last little bit of the story. I'd been more meh about the Megastream arc this year - especially the first chunk of it - but omg it picked up in the last few parts!!!! And I'm not just saying that because Raika was a 5* in one...promise! I know that enstars stopped showing the authors of stories anymore, but the final Megastream story really feels like an Akira story. It gripped me in a way that others don't and just...idk man, it just had the vibes. Liz and I talked about it and we said way smarter things but my brain is currently like PPPZZZZZZTTTTT so idk what to say now.

OH BUT WAIT THERE WAS MORE I LIKED!!!! Instead of each stop on the tour being 4 assorted song with only the last song being related to a character from the tour (usually), each stop was a specific unit. And then the second half of the tour includes cover and/or fusion songs in each stop. It just really felt like it pulled the gameplay aspect of enstars into the story itself, and I really loved it. Also I like being prepared in advance, so knowing what units were coming up was nice.

AAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!!!! The second MaM stop had two Double Face songs, so you know I was crashing out (with joy, and also because my phone crashed twice during it)
So, overall the tour was really good!!!! Which is not something I usually say, since I usually find them grueling :T But this one was fun!!!! My only major complaints are:

No MV outfits- not even for the gacha cards. I didn't end up scouting on the rate up box, because what's the point if even the 5 stars don't come with a dress up option?
BRIGHTEST STARS!! didn't need another version. like. okay, this is personal bias, but LIMIT BREAK DREAMERS is the best anniversary song and I knew the 10th anniversary one probably wouldn't top it, so maybe I'm just salty that it didn't get another fancy version. Also, I'm still haunted by having to play BRIGHTEST STARS!! repeatedly last April, so this was like a horrible flashback D:

Like I said, I really liked it!!! I feel like these complaints aren't even that major, but because I did like it so much, I'm more able to critique it in ways that aren't just "idk man it sucked?"

MaM event preview + other scout preview are tonight and I'm like....beside myself ngl, I'm not sure how I'm gonna make it XD I'm having a combination of excitement + anxiety, which is really fun. I just love that my mental illness makes me anxious about...being excited for a thing I'm gonna like???? Like, what? That doesn't even make sense!!! I just wanna enjoy myself ;w; I'm also nervous because like........most of the fanthanx have been really good with fantastic songs, but what if I don't like this one? What if one of my favorite characters ends up having something shitty? Even trying to remind myself that the rest have been good only stresses me out more, cuz I get reminded of my high expectations, and it starts the cycle again.

Unrelated, I should probably get back into therapy. This isn't even a situation where I should step away from enstars because it's causing undue stress; I'd be like this about anything I tried to enjoy right now. Why? Who knows!!!!! Like I sorta know why, but also that isn't enough to stop me from completely locking up when I try to have a nice time.

Speaking of things that upset me for no reason other than ~mental illness~, there are some changes coming to scouting in JP. They're shifting some of the percentages around slightly and also...scout coins are now gonna be universal, instead of tied to just the box you got them from. Of course, this kicks in after this event's scouts, so like...I'm only slightly salty that I'm not gonna get to benefit from it after scouting a ton for rate up for MaM. The news also dropped after I'd been up for 30+ hours straight, which made me take something that honestly sounds quite good badly, for ????? reasons. From what it sounds like, you'll be able to save up the scout coins and use them whenever, so in theory I could start saving them in preparation for the next time one of my faves has a scout box, just as back up if I don't get them from scouting for them.

....it does sound kinda too good to be true, so I'm waiting to see how it works when it rolls out. But if it really does end up working out like that, I might be able to max Madara's next gacha card without spend nearly as much as I did on Kohaku's XD

Highlights from Katsucon

I only went to one day of Katsucon, but omg it was fantastic this year!!!!! Alex was house/catsitting for her sister for the weekend, and since her sister lives near DC, it was closer than our place. Sooooo Liz and I headed there Friday night, grabbed a very late dinner at McDonald's with Alex, and then watched a bunch of enstars videos on youtube so Alex was ready to be excited for Absolute uwu

Also, she gifted me an adorable new friend, who goes absolutely perfectly with my CNstars cat nuis ;w; I also made them ice cream cones to match Madara's global exclusive card, and I think they came out really good ♥

if anything happens to my tutulong I'll just fucking die lmao
.....and then I stayed up waaaaaay too late because I'm fucking nocturnal D: Even though we had to wake up at 7 am to drive down early enough to get parking....I'm not smart :T

Liz and I didn't cosplay this year, cuz I didn't feel up to it, so I wore...a wig, a corset, and a floor length skirt XD wig is my Mayoi wig that I haven't styled yet - I pulled it out of the bag on Friday night and was delighted to discover that it's a lacefront - and the skirt is one I made for the Vampire Ball Liz and I went to in 2017. This did end up biting me in the ass because the corset ended up not sitting super well by the end of the night D: But we'll get to that later~

First thoughts on this year's katsu: holy shit I didn't realize how bad lobbyconning had gotten. I could actually move through the halls without be crushed by crowds????? Like, I was there on Saturday and I didn't feel cramped every second of the day. They did move registration to its own building, which freed up space to give Artist Alley a larger location, but still. It was really nice to be able to breathe during the con.

After getting our badges, we ran into some friends of Alex and Liz that they hadn't seen in over a decade, so everyone had a good time catching up. Which is, tbh, a classic Katsucon experience, since so damn many people go.

The first programming we went to was an absolutely delightful performance by Special for Princess!- or should I say Nice? XD Nice Arneb Thunder was MCing and they did a fucking incredible job. like. not to spoil it or anything, but this was such a highlight of my day, idk if anything topped it :0

Also, the esupuri group was just really sweet!!! They seemed so excited and a little surprised that so many people had come out to see them ;w; But seriously, they were quite good and did a good combination of songs and games. The trivia was great for me and Liz, since we actually keep current with the JP stories~ Liz won a tiara for answering some 4piece trivia correctly!

We hit up the Artist Alley for a bit after that, got lost in conversation with a Nagisa cosplayer who usually cosplays Double Face Kohaku, and I was blown away by their gorgeous ita bag. They had so many can badges from the DF TRIP album *w*

....and then we remembered we woke up balls early and Liz & I hadn't eaten :T So after debating a few options, we made our way to our tried and true katsu food: Mezeh. They opened sometime between katsu 2017 and 2018, and we've gone basically every year since. It's affordable and actually filling, especially since they have fresh veggies. Sometimes you gotta get some greens in you- especially at a con!!!

The dealers room is a bit of a blur to me because it's soooooo big and there's so much to see, but I remember it being.....fun? Busy? It was probably one of the more cramped places at the con, but that was partially because some people are just rude. Many people shoving their way through...I didn't come with much money cuz it was a last minute decision to even go, so I wasn't sure about buying anything besides maybe something small from the idol goods booth. But since the idol goods booth wasn't there this year (?????), I ended up getting a new ita bag~

I'd seen it around on insta and lusted over it, so now it is mine!! I'm planning something around Double Face's TRIP album for it OwO
And then we had to hustle to finish artist alley before it closed, cuz we weren't coming back on Sunday D: Liz and I weren't planning on spending any more money, but 1) Alex wanted to buy more stuff and 2) we still wanted to see all of it. And in the end we did buy more XD We got a few more Trigun charms from magpiesoddities, because we've been collecting their super chibi ones since Stampede came out~ They also gave us a free plantcest sticker for being men of culture (perverts).

uhhhhhh what did we do after that..............

OH RIGHT!!! Liz and I chilled on a bench sorta new the dealers room/artist alley area while Alex went to the MXTX photoshoot, and basically just took in the sights. I love people watching at cons :D We also got to help some youths (late teens/early 20s maybe?) learn the ways of Caramelldansen. They knew the dance and song, and it sounded like they'd heard people used to dance to it at cons? So they were trying to figure out how to bring it back. So while it was a conversation that made me feel very old, it was quite wholesome.

After debating back and forth a bunch, we ended up eating dinner at the grab and go place in the Gaylord. It wasn't necessarily "cheap" but like...nothing in National Harbor is, you know? And we didn't have to leave the building, which was a big plus. I'd never grabbed anything from there before, so now I know that it's not half bad.

We wanted to go to the video game room next, but my corset was fucking killing me and I needed to find a family bathroom so Liz could help me loosen it (since all the handicapped stalls in the Gaylord are barely wider than regular ones). So that was quite the fucking adventure. BUT WE EVENTUALLY DID IT. And I've learned I'm never wearing a floor length anything to Katsucon again.....idk how I forgot this lesson from 2017 lmao.

Next up: video game room! And..............it kinda fucking sucked??????? Lie, the games were brought from the same people who supply them for a video game bar I go to here in Baltimore, and usually it's a much better selection?? Like how did Anime USA, a significantly smaller con than Katsucon, have such a better video game room? idk man like......it was kinda disappointing. They didn't even have Chunithm ;w; And it closed at midnight, which is baffling. Katsu used to run sooooo late into the night, I swear it was originally a 24 hour con. Maybe I'm wrong? But I've been going for 17 years now, so I'm pretty sure I'm right :T

Whatever! Alex is gonna come down so we can go to the much better video game bar here~

After we watch cookie monster and godzilla have a cage match in the hall, we were all wiped and ready to head home. So lemme share all the pics I didn't include throughout the entry, cuz it would have ended up even longer :T

Happy Valentines and goodnight from the boys!!!! I carried many nuis around all day but tbh it was such a rush that I barely took the time to sit, let alone take pics of them D: I will say that the cat kigu nuis with their ice cream cones were a hit with the many Double Face fans and cosplayers I ran into~
All in all, a successful day at the con!!!!! Hopefully finances will be better and I can go for the full weekend next year, but I can now say I've been going to katsu for 17 fucking years.....which is wild. Here's hoping the next 17 are even better!!!!!!

Movie Night~

MOVIE NIGHT!!!! Liz, Pat, and I went to see Iron Lung, since Pat expressed interest and I love any excuse to get out of the house to do stuff. We had a great dinner of Costco Hot Dogs™ before going to my favorite movie theater of all time: the Ancient Egypt themed one~

and of course I brought Double Face along!!! I needed them to meet Anubis (clearly)

also Madara's kigu has a big enough tail that I could pose him standing up on the sphinx and I love that for him~
The movie itself was really good! It's not the type of horror that I usually go for - I dislike post-apocalyptic settings, space, and "trapped in a ship" horror - but since I didn't read up on it at all that's on me XD Plus, I'm always down to go to a thing a friend wants to do. And I'm glad I saw it despite it not being a thing I would have sought out, if that makes sense? The cinematography was fucking gorgeous; I kept getting lost in how incredible the lighting was.

ALSO THE BLOOD WAS SO RED IT WAS GREAT!!!!! I don't wanna spoil anything for anyone interested in seeing it, but it was just *mwah* The special effects were honestly stellar and I really like a lot of the choices made (like having some of the blood coagulate into things that looked like barnacles growing into the ship).

Downside is that it's the kind of horror that made me stressed for like 2 hours and then...I'm still lowkey stressed D: It didn't give me the release horror usually does, but it did for Pat so I think it's a personal preference. He absolutely loved it and is gonna be chewing on it for awhile.

Anyway, I also had to grab a few shots of the nuis in the mini arcade in the theater lobby. I got these kigus off aliexpress because labubu clothes (mostly) fit on the pattythree enstars nuis, and I got them like right before it got super icy cold out. So obviously I have to fix that~

aren't they precious???? I'm extra jazzed about getting them with claw machines because of Kohaku's card from Spring Night and the current top-up theming in globalstars *w*
Also, Liz managed to dig the car most of the way out!!! We have suuuuuch a long driveway that it's taken quite awhile, but now that it's been slightly warmer for a couple days, it's finally doable. And I apparently have a doctor's appointment on Friday, so I need to be able to get there.

I'M DONE WITH SNOW. It was nice for awhile but oh my god. I'm over it!!!!!!!!

So, after nearly two years, I've finally changed my profile in engstars...

BECAUSE I GOT MADARA'S GLOBAL EXCLUSIVE CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited; he looks so good and I love him and I do not want to talk about how much I spent to max this card XD Very glad to have a supportive wife (who also maxed a global gacha card last year, so we're in it together lmao).

Also, I wanna change the card layout to include Kohaku at some point but I'm not feeling creative enough XD So right now it's just Mr. Ice Cream Thief as a testament to my ~~spending problem~~ devotion ♥

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY WIFE ♥

I made them a beautiful cake in honor of Absolute starting this weekend, aka the Eden climax, aka one of the best enstars events~ Liz asked for chocolate cake and gave no other specifics, so this is what I came up with: dense chocolate cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese icing. It's incredibly rich, so we all nearly passed out after eating just a little bit XD

Anyway, I'm actually super pleased with how it came out!!! I had a vision and actually managed to bring it to life- with some help from Pat. He made the stencil for the lotus flower and helped place a the beads for the lower border. I think I leveled up making large smooth sections of color (for the bits I wrote on) and just...wrangling this cake in general.....I love this cake but I do not love how delicate and crumbly it is. Even with a crumb coat, I was afraid it would still be a mess. And it WAS hard to work with, but not impossible.

I'm also really happy with both the gradient and these tassels~
My wife loved it, and honestly that's what matters the most!!!!

We also had szechuan delivered from one of Liz's favorite places, since they're not feeling great and didn't wanna go out ;w; Hopefully they'll be feeling better soon, since it's very unfair that they felt crummy on their birthday.

Also, Katsucon is this weekend XD So I'm sure they wanna feel better for that!!

More Chores + Kitties

IT'S STILL SO DAMN COLD ;w; plz save me from my 100+ year old house...it's so drafty.........

Anyway- we got some more errands done yesterday! Pat's car got a flat, so we went to our favorite 24 hour tire place to get a replacement. They were delightful, as always, and made sure to fill up all his other tires + the spare while we were there. Everyone is always soooo nice and it's fast, which is nice. And the price is good, even for new tires. Here's hoping his car survives the rest of the winter + Baltimore's shitty roads!!!

After that, we went to a laundromat, because our washing machine is unusable in the extreme cold. All the pipes for the first floor bathroom - which is where the laundry is - are completely uninsulated, thanks to whoever owned this house before us. So we haven't been able to do laundry at home for the past few weeks, and it's really been piling up. We got a decent amount done at the laundromat and were able to fairly easily hang stuff up to dry when we got home, thanks to the amount of cleaning we did the day before. There's so much space in our downstairs now *w*

Liz taped up a few more windows downstairs and came up with the brilliant idea to hang a blanket between the living room and the entry, since that's one of the colder areas on the first floor. Between those things, the living room is.....slightly less cold. It's definitely not warm, but it's getting better. I cannot wait for this winter to be over ;w; I can take some cold, but it's going on too long!!

The girls have been sooooo cute and cuddly, which is a big positive. I don't think I've shared the new cats we adopted last year, since everything was kind of a blur after Lumos passed ;w; We adopted a pair of sisters - Willow and Juniper - and an older male cat - Shadow Box - at the end of the summer. They've made our home very lively...partially because they all have beef with each other XD Willow cannot stand Shadow Box to the point of fighting him on sight, so he's mostly been staying in my bedroom. And then Juniper has some sort of personal vendetta against Lily, which has kept her and Dennis confined to Pat's bedroom. Maybe someday everyone will get along...

Juniper is mostly gray with some white (and a scratch on her nose from a recent fight with Lily, sighs)

and then her sister is like twice her size and has more white splotches- but mostly Willow is just really big, okay, she's a large girl ♥

Shadow Box is all black, all eyes, and no brains ♥ I love him sooooo much (even if he keeps stealing my glasses off the bedside table)
I guess I could have shared pics of the girls where they aren't snuggled up with Liz on the couch, but they look so cute like that!!! Juniper has been sleeping right up against Liz for like an hour now; it's so fucking precious *w* I love cats so much...so good.

blurgghhh I have to go out and get groceries today cuz we need food...it's just so cold.........sobs ;w; I don't wanna brave it, but we gotta eat. We just wanted to wait until the Super Bowl started so we didn't run into last minute "big game" shoppers, I guess :T

Cleaning Accomplishments

I was so excited about Madara that I forgot to share that I actually finished another mood theme: Ensemble Stars! Cards ;D I have no idea where all this inspiration is coming from, but I'll take it. I think this is the one I'm most proud of, since it required a bit more editing and going through soooooo many more images to pick moods.

Today, Liz stayed home for a much needed mental health day. We ended up playing some more Katamari Damacy - technically Once Upon A KATAMARI but I just kinda think of them as all one big fun thing - and did some light cleaning in the living room & dining room before napping on the couch. All in all, very restful (for me at least, and I think Liz as well) :D

And then after Pat got home from work, Liz made a very tasty dinner of pork loin and roasted baby red potatoes. It was so good *w* We used to get pre-marinated pork loins from just the regular grocery store, but Lidl has them now for way less, and they're easily just as good. So that's good to know!!

Since we'd gotten started earlier, Liz, Pat, and I did some more cleaning after dinner. We got the Christmas tree taken down, took a bunch of crafting supplies back up to the third floor, and organized the stuff we're keeping down here. The basement still needs to be fully sanitized after the waste pipe burst last month, so all the Christmas stuff is still upstairs, but at least it's now condensed down into boxes.

BUT IT'S LOOKING SOOOOOO GOOD DOWNSTAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pat's also gonna help me go through all my clothes and put them away, since laundry is where I stall out a lot. And we got a cat tree to put in our bedroom like two months ago, but Liz and I haven't been able to make the space for it so it's just.....still in a box in the kitchen..........

Anyway. I'm gonna think on the positive side and be proud of all that I did get done today!! :D

the new Katamari is honestly soooo good and I've taken a decent amount of screenshots so far, but I think this T-rex might be my fave. the way the dinos are rendered is just delightful ;D

I gotta go finish up the JP event tonight so I can be prepared for everything that's coming OwO And probably play more Katamari, since I am like a man possessed with it~

Mood Theme: Done!

I FINISHED MY SECOND MOOD THEME!!!!!!!!
I mean I'm now kinda behind on grinding the jp event, but I accomplished the very cool thing of mood theme creation~ I've now made two separate themes, so I'm feeling pretty badass ;D

Unfortunately, enstars isn't super popular on dreamwidth, so I doubt it's what people are looking for...but I don't really care cuz I make things that I like, first and foremost XD Though I'm not actively using it here, I did post it at killiansicons for anyone interested!

.........anyway I know I just finished this theme and I have an event to run, but I was thinking of doing a differently styled mood theme next!! I have all the card assets because enstars changed how they put cards together in the app, so I can finally do what I had initially envisioned for an enstars mood theme: make them with the card borders!!

something like this, probably!!!
I'd make it of all the characters, and since there are over 50 of them I could even just use 5 star cards for all of them (to match the borders). I'm still torn on if I want to do editing for every single image, because doing too much is why I always stalled out on mood themes in the past. But I'm really proud of this design and definitely wanna do something with it eventually.

Other than that......I gotta get back in the trenches (grinding songs in enstars) so I can get all the Mayois my heart desires ♥

There is an evil within me, and it says: "make another mood theme"

I am debating making an ALKALOID one, but I also have to actually grind the jp event, you know? And it's sooooo time consuming, and the last time I made a mood theme I was basically a man possessed, and I don't wanna miss out on getting a bunch of copies of Mayoi!!

.....so we'll see XD

Finally posted icons to killiansicons because it had been a hot minute. I'd been fighting the feeling of inadequacy for not having "enough" to post, but I managed to convince myself that I was being fucking stupid.

Uhhh it's still fucking cold here and it keeps icing over, which is making digging ourselves out of the snow a real pain. Pat finally managed to find some ice melt at a grocery store, so that should help. And Liz is apparently a fucking beast at shoveling ♥ Which means our driveway may be cleared some time before spring. And then I can hopefully stop feeling so trapped ;w;

Needless to say, I'm kinda over winter at this point...and it's supposed to snow some more throughout the week. plz no more!!!! I'm done!!!!!!

I wanna be able to leave the house with ease!!!!!!!!!!

okay that's all I'm gonna either grind the event or get lost in mood theme hell, and even I don't know which~

......even if it meant pulling an all-nighter for the JP event. I had planned that one, but the accidental one I pulled the night before made it hellish. Do not stay up two days in a row...my skin hurts ;w;

I took a nap in the afternoon but I'm still feeling beat, so I don't have a whole lot to say. So I'll leave y'all with the nui brigade that kept me company while grinding JP for 8 hours straight.

Liz brought a button maker home from work and I used it for evil (making Mayoi buttons)

ALSO JUST. HELLO. GOD HE'S SO GORGEOUS EVEN WHEN HE'S WEARING THE MOST QUESTIONABLE OF THE FANTHANX OUTFITS SO FAR. ALL OF THE FANTHANX OUTFITS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLE; WHY MUST ALKALOID GET A WORSE VERSION OF THE TRICKSTAR ONES??????? IT'S NOT FAIIIRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Me and the homies (friends in a discord chat) were crashing out last night because Mayoi is just so beautiful and we couldn't wait for the song to drop. Like, how dare they reveal the event and then make us wait 3 hours for the MV???? It dropped at 4 am my time, which is inconvenient when your wife has to work at 8:30 am.

....we totally didn't mean to stay up for it but oops we did anyway and holy shit it was worth it. The plaid outfits are (mostly) redeemed; the song is so fucking good that it made everything better!!!!! And the outfits honestly look better in motion, so there's that.

Anyway, in my defense, they did use possibly the most boring frame of the whole MV as the thumbnail, so what was I supposed to think?

My other main gripe is that this isn't very Valentines, you know? 'Cause this is running in the usual time slot for that...I guess the Megasphere finale could be our Valentines event, but it's doubtful, especially since the holiday campaign is starting this week.

Though apparently Mayoi's first center event ran in this exact time slot despite being sky pirates, so???? What do I fucking know XD I should really stop trying to predict what the hell they're gonna do, because half the time they just do whatever the hell they want.

Speaking of Mayoi events, I cannot fucking believe he's overlapping with an ENG event where he's a 5* but he sure is!!! The Plum Blossoms event also starts on the 31st, though I guess the JP event starts about 12 hours earlier because of time zones. BUT STILL. Plus Blossoms was the first ever event I played in JP and I got two copies of the Mayoi from it, so he kept me company in green songs for the first year or so I played. So I was planning on maxing him in ENG, because I love him, but now his fanthanx is here. sobs.

I'm determined to get Mayoi in the first 24 hours tho, so I'm probably gonna just stay up all night playing. Maybe gonna hop in the voice chat in the one of the enstars servers I'm in and stream me playing (probably badly esp once it's like 6 am lmao) so I have some company. idk. I'm just excited!!!

OH LOL SO ANYWAY. One of the enstars discord servers I'm in started as the chat for anyone interested in tiering in War Atop the Sugoroku Board event, but as since just turned into a small, chill chat. It's got some people who produce different units than other chats we're in, which means Liz and I finally have someone to talk about Eden with ♥

I did impulse tier in that event, but tiering in Last Mission was 100% on purpose and I'm still so glad I did ;w; Double Face forever!!!! also lol 67 *shot*
.....okay this entry is long enough, I gotta stop because I've kinda run out of things to rant about properly, you know? And Pat is currently trying to dig the car out enough that we can go to Home Depot, since our shovel is actively falling apart while he's using it.

You know what a foot of snow needs? Photoshoot in your backyard featuring a skirt you made in 2017 and then promptly forgot about!!! Pat very kindly braved the cold to bring my ~vision~ to life.

I like to think I'm cute and funny, and I'm right~
At least now I know what I'm wearing to the ren faire this year ;D I made this skirt to wear to a vampire ball that Liz and I went to as part of our anniversary trip, and then just...never wore it again???? idk man, it looks good actually so I have no idea why I never found another use for it. Definitely wearing it in like, 9 months, when it's ren faire season. I've also just been wearing the skirt around the house because it's floor length, so it's keeping the warmth in. So yes, I'm wandering around with a black lace train like I'm living in the Addams Family, I guess XD

ANYWAY.

I did manage to make a few icons, so that's cool. I don't necessarily love them, but part of that is just...getting back into it...thankfully it's only been like 6 months so I'm not as rusty as I could be, but I still wish I could stay more on top of things and/or skip this stage.

And then the enstars event announcement is tonight and I'm sooooooo fucking anxious, since it's either gonna be MaM or ALKALOID, so my money is gone either way. If it's MaM, no one's gonna hear from me for a week while I grind out 22 mil points. sobs. It's just like.....some of my fave units have ended up last in the rotation and also why couldn't Madara have his event while I had a job and therefore more money to blow on a phone game? Like of course he waited until I had less disposable income. Bitch.

idk I don't have anything else to say, since I've been in the house all weekend. At least the snow is really pretty and we've had a fairly chill time just vibing. Trying to focus on the positives, you know?
